Things we all miss about Bombai ki baarish

It is July now and the rain gods have been very kind over the city of Mumbai this year too. However, it all feels very different this year, doesn’t it? Our little hearts want us to step outside our houses and drench a little bit more while dancing to the tune of the droplets as they race to reach the soil.

I know you are already missing the downpour by now or maybe you are holding a cup of chai in your hand and stretching the other arm outside your window to feel that water gushing down from the sky. So here’s a trip down to your memory lane just to make sure you don’t miss out on your dose of Bambai ki baarish this time either.

A little pour and the streets of Mumbai go flooding. All the water in the world comes down onto the streets, pooling every pothole. Aren't we all just missing making paper boats and making those sail.

While we talk about the flooded streets, how can we not talk about the traffic that was the result of the streets? I have definitely been in situations wherein the car or bus I was in had clearly broken down. In addition, don’t you miss the water splashing out from the wheels of the bus onto the streets, or are you people normal?

I know you are drooling by now and yes, I miss them too. The hot, lip-smacking vada placed comfortably in a pav layered with spicy red and green chutney accompanied with some crispies or maybe slices of onion and fried green chilly too. Ah! That first bite wali feeling.

Each time it rained more than it should, it served as a perfect excuse for you to call it a day off, be it school, college or work. Staying at home voluntarily is so much more satisfying than staying at home as a compulsion. Day offs were simply meant for starring out of your window and not focusing on the email that has to be sent before the end of the day. Work from home kind of took all the fun away.

Nothing, I repeat nothing beats the joy of making that surp sounds while you drink kulhad ki chai after drenching in the rain or while taking a break from all the workload that your clients have assigned you for the day. Just plain, simple adrak and elaichi wali cutting chai with nankhatai and a little corner gossip from strangers.

Be it the jammed doors of the trains or the annoying water leakage from the roofs. We all miss the irony of getting wet while being inside the train too. The only time when you find people not fighting over the window seat but ironically keeping it empty because it is already wet.

    Walking along Marine Drive:

    Entertainment, Stay at Home

The ‘Queen’s Necklace’ is every Mumbaikars favorite place, especially during rains.  The sea calms you down while the waves splashing onto the roads makes you care about the little things in life. There is nowhere you would want to be more than here, with your crazy bunch of friends, with your bae or even in solitude.
