This day is commemorated with early morning oil baths with ubtan, &#8216;pooja&#8217; (worship), and festivities. Devotees worship the goddess of riches, Lakshmi. According to tradition, on this day, Goddess Lakshmi visits her worshippers and bestows gifts on them. According to tradition, Lord Indra was angry and attempted to sink the village of Gokul. Lord Krishna protected the inhabitants of Gokul from Lord Indra&#8217;s anger by moving the Govardhan Mountain to bring relief. A blessing was bestowed on the Govardhan Mountain that it will be honored through the ages. The festival is related to the mythical story of Lord Yama and his sister Yami&#8217;s brotherly love. Just like Raksha Bandhan, Bhai Dhooj is another reason to celebrate a special day with your brother and sister. All the sisters and brothers look forward to this day, On Bhai Dooj, a &#8216;teeka&#8217; of rice and vermilion is applied on the forehead of the brother, followed by &#8216;aarti&#8217; and eating sweets.
