1Sinhagad Fort – Trekkers Paradise! 

Sinhagad Fort Sinhagad Fort, also known as Lion Fort, is one of the most popular trekking spots in Pune which is just 26 kilometres from Pune. It is a historical fort which has a memorial for 17th-century emperors as well as a temple of the Goddess Kali. It has rich historical significance and scenic views of nature, making it an attraction for history and nature lovers. 

The trek at Sinhagad fort starts at Sinhagad Paytha. There is also an alternative route for motors that leads all the way to the top of the fort.  The fort also has two different doors which are the Pune Darwaza and Kalyan Darwaza. 

There is a delicacy served called Sinhagad Dahi which basically means organic yoghurt in earthen pots. Also, there are some stalls serving authentic Zunka Bhakar at the fort. In Pune, you can also take a bus from Swargate as well as Zappa Balwant Chowk to reach Sinhagad Paytha.

2Rajmachi – Nature’s Paradise 

Rajmachi Fort Located near Lonavala, Rajmachi is a popular trekking destination which is just 80 kilometres away from Pune city. The highlight of the trek is the twin forts of Shrivardhan and Manaranjan, which offer panoramic views of the Sahyadri Mountains. It also takes you through scenic waterfalls and dense forests. The best time to visit this trekking spot is mostly during winter and monsoon season. 

You can reach the fort by taking a road trip. You can also reach Lonavala and take a train from there to reach the fort or you also have the option of hiring a private cab.

3Torna Fort – Indulge in the Serenity 

Torna Fort Torna Fort being the highest in Pune offers some challenging trekking experience. The trek to Torna Fort takes you through steep climbs, rocky terrains, and beautiful waterfalls, no wonder it’s known to be one of the best trekking spots near Pune. This fort also has a Torna Devi temple. This spot is suitable for experienced trekkers who love adventure. The actual trek of this fort starts at the base village known as Velhe.

You can reach the fort by taking a road trip or also by catching a bus at Swargate Bus Depot. You can stay in camps as this is a popular fort among campers or also stay at the Mengai temple. During weekends, the locals put up food shops offering kanda Bhaji and pithla bhakri.

4Lohagad Fort – Live the Lush  

LohagadLocated near Lonavala, the trek to Lohagad Fort is relatively easy which makes it suitable for beginners. The literal meaning of the Lohagad Fort is an Iron Fort. You will pass through lush green landscapes and ancient stone-cut steps as you start your trekking journey on this fort. Upon reaching the fort, you will witness some of the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. 

Vinchu Kada which means Scorpion’s Path is a famous viewing point among tourists. It also has historical significance which adds an important element to the beauty of this fort. You can reach the fort by taking a train at Malavli station and after reaching the station you can either walk or take a shared cab to reach Lohagad Wadi village which is the base of trekking. 

Hotels at the base of the fort are also available and you can enjoy some local delicacies there.

5Tikona Fort – Experience Heaven on Earth

From Pune, you can reach the fort by taking a train to Lonavala and get down at Kamshet. From Kamshet, you can take a bus to Tikona Path. Once you reach Tikona Path, you can enquire about the trekking path with the locals. Another option for reaching the fort is by bike.

6Harishchandragad – Landscape by Mother Nature!

There are more than three ways to reach the fort. The most scenic one is via Khireshwar village and the hardest way is via Belpada village. You can also opt for the easiest way – the Pachnai route. If you want to go for a technical trek then you can reach the fort by Valichi Vaat. There are three famous peaks at this fort, namely Taramati Peak, Rohidas Peak and Balekilla Peak. 

Due to the ban on camping on top of mountains, there are local homestays at the base of the village for your stay and you can also try local food at the base.
