Come on, admit it. After seeing Emily in Paris, many of us have dreamt of a day in Emily Cooper’s life, whether it be her job, her frequent shopping, or her enjoying the best delicacies that Parisian cafés and restaurants can offer. It might be a while before you can do any of this but what you can do is get the delicious taste of Paris right from the comfort of your home or in a café.
There is no doubt that a croissant is one of the most popular breakfast/dessert items in many places around the world, including in our city. But did you know that these delicious symbols of French culture were not actually French? Yes! They were invented in Austria but French bakers later started making them using puff pastry. And thus, the sweet croissants we all love and cherish were born. But we are all left wondering the same thing, which is the best place to try croissants in Mumbai?
Well, the answer is finally here as we at Things2do would like to present you with your very own guide to Mumbai’s 6 best places to try croissants! Best paired with a cup of coffee, it is time to feel like a Parisien.
1Subko Coffee Roasters
If you like croissants with a good, flaky texture then none come close to the one offered at Subko. This is solely because of their Masterchef, Daniel Trulson, who spends over 3 days combining his talents with the local ingredients to create perfection. This sweet delicacy is available at Subko in three variants- the Subko Classic, the Subko Twice baked, and one that is stuffed with their special ingredients. You ask what goes best with their best croissants? Why, it is one of their specialty coffees!
2Saltwater Café
Indulgence is something that just oozes out of a croissant and out of this delightful place as well! These butter loaded golden hued croissants are actually quite sizable in nature with a seemingly never ending choice of croissants. Some of the best ones at this café that you should definitely try are their almond croissant with almond cream, chocolate croissant with pistachio cream, ham and cheese stuffed croissant apart from the all time scrumptious classics like pain au chocolat, passion fruit kouign annan, and cinnamon twist.
3CocoCafé
A relatively new establishment, CocoCart and Cococafé have quickly gained popularity among many Mumbaikars, and for good reason too! This café not only sells countless imported chocolates with a great discount but also has tailormade desserts with those same imported chocolates at pretty reasonable prices. Many of those desserts are literally to die for! But while we are on the subject of croissants, the croissant sandwich at this cute little place is something we insist you have. In the spirit of a true Parisian breakfast, this meal consists of blistered tomatoes, fresh garden pesto, arugula leaves, and burrata…..just delicious!
4TwentySeven Bakehouse
The newest offering from the creators of the award-winning restaurant Masque, TwentySeven Bakehouse is quickly growing to be one of Mumbai’s go-to bakeries for nearly everything. From their New York-style bagels to baguettes to French baguettes to, of course, their chocolate croissants, it is the ultimate restaurant for all your baking needs. The croissant here is partially covered with a nutty chocolate spread that will make you want to lick your hand soon after you finish it, making it one of the best croissants in Mumbai ever! But before that, heat it in the microwave for a few seconds and see the chocolaty magic ooze out onto your plate! Yeah you might as well just lick your plate as well haha.
5Toujours
Toujours is the French word for always and, like the name suggests, it is your cue to have croissants which is always! Elegance is the forever word at this bakery as the cakes AND even the croissants here are made on a baked-to-order basis. Apart from the classic, some of their best croissants are almond croissants, cheese-stuffed croissants, and chocolate croissants. All of these choices are sure to wake up the indecisiveness deep within us. But not to worry because they even offer miniature croissants solely for people like us lmao.
6The Bread Bar
Take a guess- What is the first thing you might see when you enter this place? Well, your guess is most likely wrong as its huge eye-catching kitchen is the correct answer! You can legit see how heaven (croissant) is created right in front of your eyes! Its flaky, crunchy croissants are the closest you can be to Paris while remaining in Mumbai. Its head Chef, Rachi Gupta, has worked in the legendary Parisian café chain Pierre Hermé, which should be your cue to visit this café right now!
We at Things2do are damn sure that after reading this, you are going to rush to your nearest outlet for any of these above places or order at home. Ask us, we did the same after we wrote this blog because the pictures were simply irresistible. They are delicacies after all. Having said that, we hope that you make your next outing a croissant outing, and this is highly recommended, to all of the above!
